Montezuma's Castle

Montezuma's Castle is one of many well-preserved ancient dwellings in Arizona, and probably the most spectacular with a 20 room, 5-story structure built into a recess in a limestone cliff about 70 ft. above ground. When first discovered, it was thought to be Aztec dwellings, but it is now known to belong to the Sinagua Indian people. Since 1951, visitors have not been permitted to climb up to the ruins due to their unstable conditions so there is not much to do there except walk the paved pathways, but the site alone is definitely worth the visit.
